Short answer
Two state laws changed them. Since tax year 2026 (April 1, 2026), towns can offer a credit of up to $5,000 for veterans with a total and permanent service-connected disability, but a veteran who gets that credit can no longer also get the regular or all veterans' credit. And starting April 1, 2027, the most a town can offer for the optional veterans' credit rises from $750 to $1,000. Each town votes on its own amounts, so they differ from town to town.
Which veterans' credits does New Hampshire have?
- Veterans' tax credit (RSA 72:28): $50 a year by state law, or an optional amount the town adopts, up to $750 through tax year 2026 and up to $1,000 from April 1, 2027.
- All veterans' tax credit (RSA 72:28-b): the same amount, offered to veterans who served on active duty but don't meet the wartime service rules, if the town has adopted it.
- Service-connected total disability credit (RSA 72:35): $700 by state law, or an optional amount the town adopts, now up to $5,000.
- Surviving spouse credits for spouses of service members who died on active duty, in amounts the town sets.
A credit comes straight off the tax bill, split across the town's bills for the year.
Can a disabled veteran still get two credits?
Not from tax year 2026 on. A 2025 law (House Bill 99) amended RSA 72:35 so that the optional disability credit replaces the regular, all veterans' and combat service credits rather than adding to them. A veteran who qualifies for both chooses one. For most, the disability credit is larger.
What do towns near Nashua offer?

| Londonderry | $750 | $5,000 (from tax year 2026) |

| Windham | $750 | $4,750 |

For Hudson, Nashua, Litchfield, Amherst, Hollis, Weare and other towns, the assessor's office can tell you the current amounts. Each town page on this site links to its assessing office; see areas served.
How do I apply?
File Form PA-29, the Permanent Application for Property Tax Credits, Exemptions and Deferrals, with the town between January 1 and April 15 of the tax year. Bring your DD-214 or other discharge papers, and for the disability credit, a VA letter certifying a total and permanent service-connected disability. You generally need to own the home and live in it as your primary residence on April 1. Once approved, you don't need to reapply each year unless something changes.
I'm a veteran buying a home. How does the credit affect my payment?
A credit lowers the property tax, which lowers the escrow part of your payment once it's on the bill. Because you apply after you own the home, the first estimate usually uses the full tax. If you're buying a home with a VA loan, see the VA loan guide; a VA funding fee exemption for disabled veterans is a separate federal benefit.
